Heating guides, fault advice and workshop support for owners across Torbay, Devon and the South West.
Heating is one of the most important comfort systems in any motorhome, campervan or caravan. A good heating system keeps the living space usable in cooler weather, helps protect the vehicle during winter and makes touring more comfortable outside the main summer season
This page brings together our main heating support guides, covering common systems such as Truma blown-air heating, Alde wet central heating, Whale heating, Webasto diesel heaters and Eberspacher diesel heaters. Use it as a starting point if you are trying to understand how your heating works, why it is showing a fault, or what simple checks you can carry out before booking a workshop inspection.
Common in Truma, Alde and Whale systems.
Used by Webasto and Eberspacher air heaters.
Alde systems use glycol to circulate warmth.
Modern systems often show warnings on the control panel.

Fault finding
Different systems work in different ways, but many heating faults start with a few common causes.
Common causes include no gas supply, low battery voltage, incorrect settings, no diesel feed, blocked vents, or a system fault.
Check the water system is filled, the correct mode is selected, the gas or electric supply is available and the boiler has not drained down.
Many heating systems rely on a healthy 12v supply. A weak leisure battery can cause failed starts, shutdowns and fault messages.
Gas systems need a good gas supply. Diesel heaters need clean fuel delivery, clear air intake and exhaust routes, and enough battery power to start.
Closed outlets, blocked vents, trapped air in wet systems, poor circulation or incorrect fan settings can all reduce heating performance.
Some systems lock out after repeated failed starts. Do not keep forcing resets if the same fault keeps returning.
Care and prevention
A little routine care helps reduce faults and keeps your heating system ready for colder trips.
Using the heater periodically helps keep fans, pumps and fuel systems moving, especially if the vehicle is stored for long periods.
A weak leisure battery is one of the most common causes of heating problems, especially with diesel heaters and electronic control panels.
Systems that heat water need careful winter preparation. Frost damage can be expensive and is often preventable.
